English for Work
Our English for Work programme prepares students to find and start work in Aotearoa New Zealand by building language, digital and workplace skills, plus knowledge of local employment culture. The course provides students with the opportunity to achieve formal recognition of their skills in New Zealand, assessed against Unit Standards in line with criteria set by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA).
NZQA Unit Standards Assessed:
- Unit Standard 56 - Attend to Customer Enquiries face-to-face and on telephone
- Unit Standard 3483 - Fill in a Form
- Unit Standard 3503 - Participate and communicate in a team or group to complete a routine task
- Unit Standard 497 - Demonstrate knowledge of workplace health and safety requirements
- Unit Standard 10780 - Complete a Workplace Placement

The type of student this course would suit is someone who is post-beginner to pre-intermediate, who is actively looking for work.
This course also includes a two-week, unpaid work experience placement. Your teacher will support you in finding a placement in your desired field of work, where possible.
Upon completion of this course, and passing the General English component, and all three Unit Standards, students will be awarded an NZQA Training Scheme Certificate.
